The examples contained in this volume, powerful as each is in its own right, can also serve as a framework for further interpretation. I invite you, the reader, to adopt and apply this perspective to other areas of your life. You will surely observe the ramifications throughout your existence.

There is no area of activity, no aspect of humanity, positive or negative, from which we cannot learn. Even criminal behavior, abhorrent as it may be, can teach us a lesson. The Rebbe writes in Hayom Yom, 3 Iyar, that Rabbi Meshulam Zusya of Anipoli learned a number of methods of serving G-d from a thief.

  1. He works quietly, without others knowing.
  2. He is ready to place himself in danger.
  3. The smallest detail is of great importance to him.
  4. He labors with great toil.
  5. He moves quickly.
  6. He is confident and optimistic.
  7. If he does not succeed the first time, he tries again and again.

That a lesson can be gleaned even from evil, is a fitting preparation for the era of Mashiach when the refinement of evil will be completed and the true G-dly nature of all existence will be apparent for all to see.
