No. 672

This letter was addressed to R. Shlomo Zalman Hecht, one of the shluchim in Chicago.
B"H, 13 Menachem Av, 5710

Greetings and blessings,

I read your letter of 11 Menachem Av with pleasure. The reasons for my pleasure are:

  1. You went on vacation with your household. Certainly you will use the time for the health of the body and the health of the soul. May it be G-d's will that it be successful.

  2. That you began to take a serious interest in the offer made concerning the parochial school.[690] Certainly in these endeavors, you will not make extensive use of the quality of earnest sternness.[691] As explained in Torah Or, [Parshas] Toldos, in sec. 4 of the explanation of the maamar entitled Mayim Rabbim, one should make use of the quality of earnest sternness for diligence in study.

  3. Your statement that you made a stipulation at the outset that even if you receive a position in the parochial school, it will be on condition that it does not interfere with your Rabbinic duties with which you were charged by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, hk"m.

Awaiting good tidings from you, signing with blessing and with greetings,

Menachem Schneerson

  1. (Back to text) [A school for Jewish children that was not a yeshivah in the traditional sense, but did provide its students with Torah education.]

  2. (Back to text) [This is translating the Hebrew-Yiddish phrase marah schechorah.]
