B"H, the thirtieth day after the passing
of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, hk"m

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter of Wednesday, 5 Adar.

With regard to your question about traveling and settling [in a different place],[253] it appears to me that you should sit down [with] three good friends and describe the situation to them in detail.[254] The decision they make should [address] what is best for you in material and spiritual matters.

If it is possible, it would be desirable that before coming to a decision, both these three individuals — and of course, yourself — recite a chapter of Tehillim and study a portion of the maamar [published for] Yud Shvat.[255]

Today, the thirtieth day [after the Rebbe's passing], while at [his] gravesite, I mentioned you for good.

With blessing,

Rabbi Menachem Schneerson

Notes:

  1. (Back to text) [Apparently, the chassid to whom the letter was addressed desired to visit the Rebbe and discuss personal issues with him. Instead, the Rebbe suggested an alternative.]

  2. (Back to text) [See the Igros Kodesh of the Rebbe Rashab, Vol. 3, Letter No. 698, where this advice is cited in the name of the Baal Shem Tov. See also the Rebbe's Igros Kodesh, Vol. III, Letter No. 717.]

  3. (Back to text) [I.e., the maamar entitled Basi LeGani.]
