No. 509

This letter was addressed to Rabbi Ben Tzion Shemtov, the Rebbe’s emissary in England.
B"H, 25 Tammuz, 5709

Greetings and blessings,

In response to your letter of 18 Tammuz: My revered mother is in good health, thank G-d.

  1. Enclosed is a letter from Machne Israel from 13 Tammuz. No doubt, you will publicize [the contents of the letter] and also publicize [the concept of] the book of photographs[575] to those for whom it is appropriate. In a suitable way, you should motivate [others] to actual activity.

  2. Thank you for sending the portion in English from the newspaper concerning Yud-Beis Tammuz. (It was well written, and its content was positive.) Please send another copy. Also, identify the name of the newspaper and the date and issue of publication. Also, send the other portions that you mention.

  3. You will no doubt send here a copy of the picture of the members of the chassidic brotherhood with Rav Herzog[576] and the cuttings from the newspaper in which the picture will be published.

  4. The receipts were already sent....

  5. Yesterday, Mr. Shargei[577] visited my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita.

You can find out particulars concerning him from the brother of R. Nissan Mindel, our secretary, It would be appropriate to arrange a meeting with him and to turn the topic of conversation to the point where you could ask: “No doubt, when you were in America, you visited the chamber [of the Rebbe]...,” at which point, you could ask for greetings and tell Mr. Shargei about the work carried out [previously in Russia], the self-sacrifice that was required, and conclude with [a description of] the work [presently being carried out] in Europe.

With wishes for everlasting good in all matters and with greetings to R. [Yerachmiel Benyaminson] and to all those who seek our welfare,

Rabbi Menachem Schneerson
