No. 499

This letter was addressed to R. Shalom Posner, at the time, one of the Previous Rebbe’s shluchim in Chicago.
B"H, 4 Tammuz, 5709

Greetings and blessings,

Enclosed is the kuntreis for the Holiday of Redemption,[462] a letter from Machne Israel,[463] and a letter from the Committee for Maamad. You will no doubt endeavor to share all three with people at large in the most appropriate manner.

By free association, one might say that [the three enclosures] represent the [renowned] three vectors[464]: The kuntreis is identified with Torah; the letter from Machne Israel, with [Divine service,] i.e., elevation and connection; and the letter from the Committee for Maamad, with deeds of kindness with oneself and with all the members of one’s household.

May it be G-d’s will that [the wishes] mentioned at the conclusion of the enclosed maamar speedily be fulfilled and that through the three vectors mentioned above come “the redemption of our souls.” And immediately thereafter “I will consider it as if he redeemed...,” [i.e.,] the Holy One, blessed be He, will bring us to the encompassing redemption, with the coming of Mashiach.[465]

With greetings to all those who seek our welfare,

M. Schneerson

Notes:

  1. (Back to text) [I.e., Yud-Beis/Yud-Gimmel Tammuz, the anniversary of the Previous Rebbe’s release from prison. See Sefer HaMaamarim 5709, p. 183ff.]

  2. (Back to text) [The letter, reproduced in the Rebbe’s Igros Kodesh, Vol. III, p. 130, speaks of preparing a book of pictures of Lubavitcher chassidim and their families all over the world to be given to the Previous Rebbe.]

  3. (Back to text) [See Avos 1:2.]

  4. (Back to text) [The maamar focuses on our Sages’ statement (Berachos 8a): “The Holy One, blessed be He, says: ‘Whoever occupies himself in the Torah and deeds of kindness and prays with the community, I consider it as if he redeemed Me and My children from among the nations.” The conclusion of the maamar explains that through involvement in these three vectors of Divine service, a person redeems his soul from captivity. And moreover, such efforts lead to the all-encompassing redemption for the Jewish people at large with the coming of Mashiach.]
