No. 278

This letter was sent to R. Aryeh Leib Kramer, one of the leading members of the Lubavitch community in Montreal.
B"H, 8 Menachem Av, 5707

Greetings and blessings,

a) Please inform me what is being done with regard to the efforts [to procure] a visa for Mr. Kluvgant. Is his relative, Mr. Lavut, taking part in this? If you feel that he needs to be encouraged regarding this, encourage him.

Enclosed is a letter from my revered mother for Mr. Lavut. Since I do not know the man's character, [I ask that] you act on your own judgment as to the course of action to take: whether to give him the letter in hand or merely to inform him of the points of the letter and to return the letter to me.

c) You will certainly speedily fulfill the request of our letter of 5 Menachem Av.

I will conclude with one of the sayings of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita: "[This year,] the fast is postponed.[187] May it be G-d's will that it be postponed entirely." It is possible to note that [in a halachic context, there is] an advantage when a matter is hutra ("released") over when it is dichuyah ("superceded"). See the two categories of dichuyah mentioned in the Alter Rebbe's Shulchan Aruch, sec. 328:13, and the two categories of hutra in Yoma 6b.

In the Ultimate Future, there will be an even greater positive quality, for [these days] will be transformed into [days of] gladness and joy.

With the blessing "Immediately to teshuvah, immediately to Redemption,"

Rabbi Menachem Schneerson

Notes:

  1. (Back to text) [In that year, Tishah BeAv fell on Shabbos and the fast was postponed until Sunday.]
