Greetings and blessings,

I enjoyed meeting with you recently and having the opportunity to talk things over, in particular, to discuss matters involving Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch.

Knowing your deep interest in the work of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch, I am certain that without waiting for the response of our good friend Mr. Stulman, you will do everything [possible] to help Merkos extricate itself from its present critical [financial] situation which threatens to paralyze its vitally important work.

The Alter Rebbe, the author of the Tanya, states in his Iggeres HaKodesh (Epistle 16) that although the Shulchan Aruch mentions a specific measure with regard to giving tzedakah, that is appropriate when one observes all the stringencies of the laws of the Shulchan Aruch. But since we Jews ask that G-d conduct Himself with us with kindness and mercy, we must conduct ourselves in the same way with regard to charity and not restrict ourselves according to the guidelines of the law.

I regard your help and your devotion to Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch with deep gratitude. Certainly you are doing what you can. Nevertheless, because of the critical situation of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch at present, I hope that you will do much more than the ordinary measure and that you will make a special effort -- a rescue effort -- to give immediate assistance for Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch.
