No. 261

This letter was addressed to R. Moshe Gourarie, one of the members of the chassidic community in Eretz Yisrael.
B"H, 10 Teves, 5707

Greetings and blessings,

It has been a long time since I received a letter from you, although we did receive greetings from your brother, R. Shemrayahu.

When considering the lack of means available to print the manuscripts and texts of our Rebbeim, I suggested to your brother, with the intent that he communicate to you -- and I am now repeating my suggestion in writing -- that a committee for printing texts be established among the members of the chassidic brotherhood and the yeshivah students. Its mission will be to establish a fund for printing (from donations from individuals who desire that their name be associated with a text, [donations] in memory of the departed or the like, or ordinary donations) and afterwards to endeavor to distribute the texts. (In that way, at least a portion of the money invested in the printing will return to your repository.)

I do not wish to write any more particulars because I am unaware of the conditions of your environs with regard to this pursuit. [Instead,] you must make these decisions according to your understanding. It is known to me that there will be no obstacles to the distribution of the teachings of our Rebbeim due to a lack of means, because my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, gave permission to publicize them. I am awaiting your opinion with regard to the above in general and, [assuming you] agree, your suggestions with regard to who should be included in this committee. (No matter what, it is necessary that you serve on the committee yourself.) It is worthy to note that as of now, the inhabitants of our Holy Land have not participated in the printing of the teachings of Chassidus at all.

Please give my brother[140] 20 pounds as soon as possible. You may take it from our account. [I offer my] thanks in advance. With regard to the debt for Toras Shalom, your brother gave me $19.50 and I paid $18 for my package according to his directions. Similarly, you may send us 20 copies of the Tanya.

I hope that within a month, the printing of Toras Chayim, Imrei Binah, and Peirush HaMilos will be completed. Certainly you have been informed that we have published Derech Mitzvosecha and the Siddur Torah Or, together with the Shaar HaCollel.

Waiting for your reply, I conclude with good wishes for all time,

Rabbi Menachem Schneerson
Certainly the letter concerning Atah[141] and the letter to R. Takash have been received. What is happening with regard to the explanations of Tanya[142] that R. Takash possesses?
