No. 202

This letter is addressed to Mr. Tzadok Rivkin, a philanthropist from New York.
12 Kislev, 5706, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Greetings and blessings,

It is our great pleasure to inform you that despite the great difficulties that prevailed in recent times including the strike, the inability to procure paper, and the like, we have been able to print the Siddurim for our brethren in Europe in which you participated by undertaking the expenses for the first edition.

We have sent you several Siddurim under a separate cover and in the coming days the first shipment of Siddurim will be sent to the Jewish camps in Europe.

It is needless to elaborate about the great mitzvah you have performed in enabling us to print Siddurim for our martyred brethren. Imagine, several times a day - when praying, eating, and reciting blessings - they will use this Siddur. They will think that for this, they must thank a Jew, Tzadok Rivkin in faraway New York, who gave them the opportunity to pray to G-d in the manner in which they, their parents, and their grandparents did. (Moreover, in many other places, these Siddurim will be used in chaderim to teach many children.)

The Talmud (Bava Kamma 92b) interprets the verse (Shmos 23:25): "And you shall serve G-d your L-rd," as referring to serving G-d through prayer, through reciting the Shema and the prayers.

We wish that your merit in giving thousands of Jews the opportunity of serving G-d will enable you to merit the fulfillment of the promises in the continuation of the above verse: "He shall bless your bread and your water, and I shall remove illness from your midst." [In simple terms,] you should be healthy and enjoy satisfaction in your old age, with long and good years.
